So this is it, the big day. Try not to feel too nervous about your speech, but if you are likely to be it pays to develop your relaxation response thorough breath control and positive imagery and remember that it is the wedding ceremony that is most important, not the speeches.

It is normal to feel slightly nervous, and in fact the adrenaline rush that comes from nerves will help your performance. More debilitating is stage fright, but provided you have written your speech to the very best of your abilities and released it well then you should have nothing to fear.

It helps to start with a strong opening because your confidence will soar as soon as you feel things are going well. If you have included any humor in your speech wait until the laughter has almost died down before continuing so that everyone can hear what you have to say and if a joke falls flat don’t worry – it happens to the best comedians too.

Do try and relax when you are speaking, remembering to take in the entire room and speaking slowly and clearly. The guests want you to succeed, so they are all behind you and just go through each point in your notes until you reach the toast. When the guests site down after the toast it’s all over for you; sit down and enjoy the rest of the day!
